  • Could be used for illicit cracking operations

Sterjo Wireless Passwords utility is a simple application that will attempt to guess a lost wireless password, which will allow you to connect to a modem and reset it if you've forgotten it. In most cases, you'd be able to do so by inserting an Ethernet cord directly into the WiFi adapter and accessing a configuration terminal. This process is generally quite simple.

However, there's always the possibility that you might run into complications and must have the wireless password to do so. If that happens, then you or a member of your company's IS department can enable the Sterjo app and wait for it to guess each possible combination. In some cases, it could find the password quite quickly. This is especially true of those who are working with modems that have very simple passwords set.

Should a previous IS department staffer have left a WiFi adapter's default password in place it shouldn't take that long for Sterjo to find it. More complex passwords will require a greater amount of time to discover. That being said, it should work with WEP, WPA and AES encrypted systems, which will ensure that it should prove compatible with all different brands of networking hardware.

While there's the possibility that someone could misuse this software, it might also play a part in infosec operations. Ethical hacking teams might want to use it to test and make sure that their company's passwords are secure. If Sterjo is able to easily guess the code for an access point, then chances are that other people would be able to do the same thing.
